| | Personal Statement: | My work has developed from being a Generalist Teacher in 1988-89, to performing, teaching, writing and directing theatre with young people between 1990-2000, organising children’s charity work in Romania from 1991-97, leading workshops in spontaneous theatre and personal development for adults from 2000 and facilitating in the corporate world of business until 2006…
With this experience I have returned to the world of children with Storytelling as a Performer, Storymaking, Creativity and the Arts and am now discovering the infinite delights and miracles of the NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
My way of working is very CHILD-CENTRED giving them the opportunity for FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE, whilst discovering the OUTSIDE CLASSROOM, ie the school grounds, their local environment or further a-field
Local History, Geography and Science links are often made through their own questioning as well as resources I provide, getting close to Nature and identification is another area that we often explore
The skills of enquiry, collaboration and problem solving are frequently used in more physical tasks such as collecting natural resources, propping up sticks, balancing branches and tying knots whilst creating sculptures, building dens and making weight-bearing rope walks
The Arts play a big part in the children’s expression of ideas, and Poetry, Song Writing, Storytelling/ Storymaking, Drama, Music, Sculpture, Dance, Drawing and Painting have all been explored through their interests
I have been exploring this work alongside the children in Primary Schools in North Somerset, BANES and Somerset, at Kilve Court Education Centre in Somerset and with the 5x5x5=Creativity Project at Chewton Mendip Primary School
